Whimsical Dresser Transformation Using Limestone & a Floral Décor Transfer

Upcycling a Vintage 6‑Drawer Dresser with Fusion Mineral Paint & a Lovely Décor Transfer

There’s something so satisfying about taking a well‑built vintage piece and giving it a fresh new look. This old 6‑drawer dresser had great bones — solid wood, dovetail drawers, and tons of character — but it was definitely showing its age. The finish was dull, the wood was dry, and the hardware needed some love. It was the perfect candidate for an upcycle.

Step 1: A Deep Clean with TSP Alternative

Before any painting project, prep is everything. I started by giving the entire dresser a thorough cleaning with TSP Alternative, inside and out. This removes years of grime, oils, and residue so the paint can properly adhere.

Step 2: Nourishing the Dry Wood with Hemp Oil

Once it was clean, I noticed the interior wood was extremely dry. Since this dresser is solid wood, I wanted to revive it from the inside out. I applied a generous coat of Hemp Oil Wood Finish to the interior. The wood soaked it up beautifully — it was like watching the piece breathe again.

Step 3: Painting with Fusion Mineral Paint in Limestone

For the exterior, I chose Fusion Mineral Paint in Limestone, this smooth shade is
beautiful on its own or as a backdrop for accents of blue and green. I applied two coats, letting each one dry thoroughly. After drying overnight, the finish looked smooth, clean, and elegant — the perfect backdrop for the next step.

Step 4: Adding a Floral Décor Transfer

To give the dresser a whimsical, romantic touch, I applied a flower vine décor transfer across the drawers. This instantly transformed the piece from simple to stunning. The delicate florals add movement and charm without overwhelming the design.

Step 5: Refreshing the Hardware

The bottom four drawers still had their original hardware, so I cleaned and painted them in gold Posh Chalk Pigments. The top drawers were missing knobs entirely, so I replaced them with cut‑glass knobs for a touch of sparkle. The mix of original and new hardware adds character while keeping the piece cohesive.

The Final Look

I absolutely love how this dresser turned out. The combination of Limestone paint, nourished wood, fresh hardware, and that whimsical floral transfer gives it a soft, romantic feel. It’s amazing what a little creativity — and the right products — can do for a tired vintage piece.

If you’re thinking about trying your own dresser makeover, Fusion Mineral Paint and décor transfers are a wonderful place to start. They’re beginner‑friendly, forgiving, and endlessly customizable.
