See How an Antique China Cabinet Gets Transformed

China Cabinet Makeover: From Worn to Wonderful with Paint, Decoupage & WoodUbend

Some pieces just need a little love to shine again—and this old china cabinet was no exception. Structurally sound but showing years of wear, it was the perfect candidate for a creative refresh.

Prep Work First I began by giving the entire piece a thorough cleaning inside and out using TSP Alternative. This step is crucial for ensuring proper paint adhesion and removing any lingering dust and fingerprints.

Elegant Color Choices For the interior, I chose Fusion Mineral Paint Raw Silk—a soft, creamy white that brightens up the cabinet beautifully. The exterior got a dramatic transformation with Midnight Blue, a rich, deep hue that adds instant sophistication.

Adding Character with WoodUbend To elevate the design, I applied WoodUbend decorative mouldings to the drawer front, side panels and top back board. I then used subtle paint blending techniques around the appliqués to make them stand out while keeping the look cohesive.

Floral Flair with Decoupage Inside the back panel, I added a stunning floral Posh Chalk decoupage paper that ties the whole palette together and adds a romantic, vintage-inspired touch.

Finishing Touches To complete the look, I dry brushed gold pigments over the decorative carvings, legs and hardware, adding just the right amount of shimmer. A bit more paint blending around these areas helped unify the finish and highlight the cabinet’s beautiful details.

This makeover turned a tired piece into a showstopper—perfect for displaying treasures or adding charm to any room.
