Neglected Solid Wood Nightstand Turns Out So Cute
Some pieces just speak to you—and this solid wood nightstand was one of them. Despite the stickers, stains, and banged-up edges, I knew it was worth saving. With a little love and a lot of creativity, it’s now a charming, one-of-a-kind piece that feels fresh, feminine, and full of personality.

Prep & Repair: Starting Fresh
I began by scraping off the stickers and removing the sticky residue with vinegar. Then I gave the entire piece a deep clean using TSP Alternative, which is my go-to for prepping surfaces before paint.
The top edge was pretty beat up, so I decided to add WoodUbend Trim to give it a decorative finish. My favorite method? Heating the whole roll on an electric griddle lined with tinfoil. I set it to medium heat, flipped the roll after a few minutes to warm both sides evenly.
While the trim is heating up, I use a small damp paint brush to add a layer of wood glue to the edge of the nightstand so I can stick the trim to it. I roll the trim out along the edge and tape it in place as I go. Then quickly cut off the excess while it is still warm. After trimming it to size, I press it in place—reheating with a heat gun as needed to ensure a snug fit. A quick tip: thin trim pieces cool and harden just as fast as they heat up, so work quickly and reheat when necessary.

Paint, Transfers & Details
For the body, I chose Fusion Mineral Paint in Laurentien—a cheerful, vintage-inspired turquoise that instantly brightened the piece. I added a few leftover pieces of a white decor transfer to the drawer fronts for a soft, romantic touch.

The drawer interior had stubborn ink stains I couldn’t remove, so I primed it and painted it in Fusion’s Peony—a soft, pink that adds a fun surprise when you open it.
To finish it off, I dry brushed white metallic paste over the WoodUbend trim to highlight the details and tie everything together. A white ceramic rose knob was the perfect final touch.
The Reveal
This nightstand went from neglected to adorable. The combination of soft colors, floral accents, and metallic highlights makes it a sweet addition to any bedroom, nursery, or cozy reading nook.
