🖤 From Damaged to Dazzling: A Vintage Dresser Makeover in Coal Black
Share
There’s something magical about giving new life to a forgotten piece of furniture—and this vintage dresser was no exception.

When I first found it, the two bottom drawers had badly damaged veneer, but the top drawer still had its original charm. I was especially drawn to the unique drawer pulls, so I carefully removed them and gave them a thorough cleaning to preserve their character.
Next came the prep work: I stripped away the damaged veneer on the top and the lower drawers and gave the entire piece a deep clean inside and out using TSP Alternative. With a fresh canvas ready, I reached for one of my go-to favourites—Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black. The rich, velvety finish instantly elevated the dresser’s look.

To add a touch of whimsy and elegance, I applied a Redesign with Prima floral decor transfer to select areas of the dresser. The top drawer, which I left unpainted to showcase its original detail, was treated with Hemp Oil Wood Finish—as was the painted surface—to enhance the depth and give the entire piece a soft, beautiful sheen.
I touched up the metal on the drawer pulls with Posh Chalk gold pigments for the final touches.

The result? A once-damaged dresser turned into a bold, functional, and truly one-of-a-kind piece that’s ready to be loved for years to come.
