Elegant &; Functional: Tray Table Makeover with Decoupage and Fusion Mineral Paint
Share
Sometimes the simplest pieces offer the most creative potential. This tray table had great structure but needed a fresh look to make it shine. With a little prep and a few artistic touches, it’s now both beautiful and functional—ready to serve guests or add charm to any room.
Step 1: Clean & Prep
As always, I started by cleaning the entire table with TSP Alternative. This ensures the surface is free of dust, oils, and residue so the paint and decoupage adhere properly.
Step 2: Paint Base for Decoupage
To make the decoupage paper pop, I painted the tray section in Fusion Mineral Paint’s Picket Fence—a crisp, clean white that acts as the perfect backdrop for detailed designs.
Step 3: Apply Decoupage Paper
Once the paint dried, I applied a layer of Fusion’s Decoupage & Transfer Gel to the tray surface. I carefully placed the paper over the gel, then smoothed and sealed it with another coat on top. This not only secures the paper but gives it a soft, matte finish.
Step 4: Paint & Blend
The rest of the table was painted in Fusion’s Coal Black, creating a striking contrast with the decoupage design. To tie everything together, I used a few coordinating colors to blend around the edges of the paper, making it look like a seamless part of the table.
This tray table makeover is a great example of how a little creativity can turn a basic piece into a standout accent. Whether you're hosting guests or styling a cozy corner, a custom tray table adds personality and function to your space.
