Coal Black Elegance — A Fresh Take on an Antique Dresser with Mirror
There’s something magical about giving an antique piece a second life. This dresser with mirror had beautiful lines and solid craftsmanship, but it was ready for a refresh. I wanted to preserve its vintage charm while giving it a bold, modern twist — and Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black was the perfect
choice.
Step 1: Prep with TSP Alternative
As always, I started by cleaning the entire piece — inside and out — with TSP Alternative. This step is essential for removing any oils, dust, or residue that could interfere with paint adhesion.
Step 2: Painting the Dresser in Coal Black
Coal Black is one of my absolute favorite Fusion colors. It’s rich, dramatic, and has a velvety finish with a slight sheen that elevates any piece. I applied two light coats, allowing each to dry thoroughly. The coverage was beautiful, and the dresser instantly felt more grounded and sophisticated.

Step 3: Refreshing the Mirror Frame
Next, I turned my attention to the mirror. I carefully taped off the glass and applied two coats of Coal Black to the frame. This tied the whole piece together and gave the mirror a clean, cohesive look.

Step 4: Keeping the Knobs Natural
To balance the bold black paint, I chose to keep the original wooden knobs in their natural finish. After a good cleaning and a light touch-up with stain, they looked warm and timeless — the perfect contrast to the Coal Black.
The Final Reveal
Once everything was dry and reassembled, the transformation was complete. This dresser now feels elegant, grounded, and ready for a new home. The combination of Coal Black paint, natural wood accents, and a refreshed mirror gives it a classic-meets-modern vibe that works beautifully in any space.

If you’re thinking about painting an antique piece, Fusion Mineral Paint offers incredible coverage and durability — and Coal Black is a stunning choice for bold, timeless makeovers.
