Bold & Beautiful: Oak Jewelry Chest Makeover with Decoupage and Coal Black Elegance
Share
There’s nothing more exciting than turning a simple piece of furniture into something extraordinary. When I came across this oak jewelry chest, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to have some fun with a dramatic makeover.

I started by giving the chest a thorough cleaning inside and out with TSP Alternative, ensuring a smooth surface for the transformation. With fresh decoupage papers on hand, I couldn’t wait to use them. On the front door, I applied a striking image of an exotic lady, while the drawer fronts inside were adorned with a vibrant bouquet of flowers.

To tie the look together, I painted the entire chest in Fusion Mineral Paint Coal Black, a rich, timeless shade that made the decoupage designs pop. For the finishing touches, I highlighted the small hardware with Posh Chalk Pigments Lemon Gold and added subtle dry brushing around the edges for extra depth and elegance.
Because the jewelry chest was rather tall, I had the bare sides to work with and decided to apply WoodUbend droplets. I painted them in Coal Black and dry brushed them in Lemon Gold as well.

The result? A jewelry chest that went from ordinary oak to bold and beautiful—a true statement piece that showcases the power of creativity and paint.
